FAA Investigating Drone Collision with Jet Blue Flight in NYC

The airline pilot reported the strike occurred at 3,000 feet.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a JetBlue pilot’s report of a drone striking his aircraft at 3,000 feet on final approach to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport runway on Monday.

JetBlue stated, “The flight landed without incident, customers deplaned normally, and the plane was removed from service for a post-flight inspection, which found no damage or evidence of a collision.”

FAA regulations generally restrict drone altitudes to 400 feet above ground level. The agency reported that it receives over 100 drone sighting reports per month, despite drones being prohibited from flying near airports.

The FAA officials said, “We want to send a clear message that operating drones around airplanes, helicopters, and airports is dangerous and illegal.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for Administrator Bedford as he heads the Federal Aviation Administration.
  • For FAA officials as they seek to enforce federal regulations and protect aircraft from drone hazards.
  • For drone operators to comply with federal regulations on altitude and airport vicinity limits.
